While I hate to admit it, I must confess: I wait all year for fall to roll around. Don't get me wrong, I love summer and boating and swimming and barbecues and baseball and all that other fun stuff. But when the calender flips from July to August I instantly get restless. I NEED September to roll around as quickly as possible so I can get out into the woods and back on the trail of game.

A bell on a bird dog. Another log in the cast iron woodstove at hunt camp. Fall leaves crunching underfoot. These are some of my favorite things. Joel Schnell is a photographer and editor and publisher of ruffedgrouseminnesota.com. He has over 10 years editorial experience photographing the industry-leading Black and Decker Home DIY books on home improvement, dog training, lifestyles and green living; and dozens of other titles for Quayside Publishing. His commercial assignment work clients include many of Minnesota's largest corporations. He is director of photography on DSLR motion projects and has worked on several locally produced films.
